History
Here are some comments from one of our Founding Members Daphne Pratt. “The genesis of our group was a class organised by what was the Community Action Programme, later to become UCOL. One of the class members took a list of those interested in forming a regular group, and it all took off from there, from meeting in members homes to a number of venues around Masterton. Once our group grew out of fitting in people’s homes, we had to become a bit more organised, and start paying rent, a gold coin per meeting as I recall. The earliest records no long exist unfortunately, but in due course we held a meeting and elected a stitchmistress, secretary and treasurer. A newsletter began, and we organised classes with outside tutors, and our very first exhibition, in co-operation with the Floral Art Club. Now exhibitions are a regular feature of our activities, along with our retreats, always well organised and supported.” we are a strong, active group, offering plenty of support, encouragement and learning opportunities for newer quilters.
That first meeting was held in 1988 and here are some photos from our 25th anniversary dinner held on 7th November 2013.
The first is of Daphne Pratt (a founding member) and Celia Holt (our then Stitch Mistress) cutting the anniversary cake.
This is the Anniversary Committee, and the founding members and life member who were able to attend the dinner.
